In the dead of night in October 2007, Schnautzie, just a kitten at the time, performed a remarkable feat. She climbed onto the chest of her owner, Trudy Guy, and began tapping Guy’s nose with her paw. At first, Guy dismissed it as an adorable annoyance. But when Schnautzie persisted, Guy woke up and noticed the cat sniffing the air. Something was amiss.
Guy awakened her husband, Greg Guy, and they discovered a gas pipe leading into their Montana home had broken, filling their basement with deadly fumes. Thanks to Schnautzie’s persistence, they evacuated the house just in time, potentially preventing a catastrophic explosion.
